On October 4, 2025, I had the opportunity to photograph the band “Der Weg einer Freiheit” on their “INNERNSTALGIA Tour 2025” at the sold-out Christuskirche Bochum. The Nuremberg-based post-black metal band transformed the sacred church interior into a place full of energy, emotion, and pure sonic power. The combination of atmospheric lighting, intense music, and honest stage presence made the concert a unique experience.

On October 4, 2025, as a concert photographer, I photographed the concert of “Der Weg einer Freiheit” during their “INNERNSTALGIA Tour 2025” in the sold-out Christuskirche Bochum. Already at the entrance, there was a tense, expectant atmosphere in the air – not only because of the new album Innern, but also because of the special acoustics of the sacred space. The mixture of darkness and light, fog and clear guitar sounds made it immediately clear: this is about more than just a show – it's about atmosphere, intensity, and closeness.
The band from Würzburg has been active since 2009 and stands for post-black metal, with a strong emphasis on emotion, melody, and depth in their songs. Their lyrics often deal with personal feelings, sensory impressions, and inner abysses – not spectacle, but authenticity. With Innern, they have released an album that is introspective, multi-layered, and sonically ambitious.
On stage, the new material was presented with astonishing clarity and power. The guitars oscillated between rugged harshness and melodic shimmer, while the drums and bass provided a dynamic depth that gave the church room to unfold. The vocals were sometimes angry, sometimes almost fragile—a contrast that often gave listeners goosebumps. Especially in quieter moments, the hall became a resonance chamber, but in loud passages, the floor shook. The lighting and the use of fog underscored the tension – not distracting from the core idea of the music, but amplifying it.
For me as a photographer, this concert was a feast for the eyes and ears, despite the “difficult” lighting conditions. The Christuskirche Bochum proved to be the ideal setting – both acoustically and visually – and Der Weg einer Freiheit showed that they have really taken a step forward on their 2025 release tour: both in their artistic expressiveness and in their live presence. Anyone looking for intimacy, intensity, and authentic music could not have been disappointed here.
The melodic post-metal band Heretoir played as the opening act and delivered an impressive performance full of emotion and atmosphere.
